It’s a stylized Cold War spy ship in a modern setting, and it’s very satisfying viewing

Gary Oldman plays the quintessential old hag, an MI5 spy left over from the Cold War (and relegated to Slough House) who continues to fend off shadows and see real threats before anyone else.

Another well-crafted show that builds its immediate world with details of setting, character (and guile) – the essential elements of good storytelling

If you’re just discovering this show now that season 2 is out, you should do yourself a favor and watch season 1 first – it’s a good story and will give you depth of character and situation to add to your enjoyment.

Highly recommended – Oldman and Christina Scott-Thomas are great, as are Jack Loden and Saskia Reeves

Season 2 seems to have upped the game in terms of production design and cinematography – it really paid off and elevated the show above the usual weekly episodic television.
